In many manufacturing or distribution environments, the material handling process is either solved by palletizing product, parts, or equipment whiile forked equipment is used to distribute the product throughout the facility; or a good number of manufacturing companies keep their materials or products on a rack or cart. There are many reasons a manufacturer chooses to keep their material handling process on wheeled loads, but two of the more common reasons are:
A) Its easier to access a part that is hanging or indexed on a rolling rack while it is sitting next to the assembly line. If the operator has to manipulate or reposition the rack for better access, or remove an empty and replenish it with a full, a rolling load is the most efficient way to handle this task.
B) Many finished products or input materials are not conductive for palletizing. They are either odd shaped, or too fragile to allow stacking. Examples of manufactures with many carts of rolling loads are the Window, Door, and Lumber manufacturers, or the automotive assembler or manufacturer.
These wheeled loads are delivered and transported through the facility in a few different ways. Most manufacturers use a rider tug or lift truck, or they manually push them by hand. Many of the environments are usually congested, making it hard to maneuver the cart or wheeled equipment with a bulky, clumbersum ride on piece of equipment, or the employer is worried about an injury. The operator attaches the shopping cart pusher to the back of the line of shopping carts, he then stands at the front of the train of carts with one hand steering the line of carts and while the other hand uses the remote control device to operate the shopping cart pusher.
